One Chicken
5,000 years ago, chickens lived exclusively in the jungles of Southeast Asia — through modern livestock farming, they are now the most widespread bird in the world. The work One Chicken displays the complete skeleton of a chicken, depicting each of the 144 bones in individual, true-to-scale photographs. This typological representation reveals the complexity of this farm animal, which we otherwise tend to encounter only in pieces on our plates.
In contrast to the association of chicken bones as a waste product, this project presents them as gleaming white, sculptural objects appearing to float against a black background. Taken together, they map the skeletal framework that once supported a living being, reflecting on the value of the individual within industrial anonymity.
